Using HCD to Jumpstart Comprehensive Planning

Published July 25, 2025 by Debbie Pixton

In February, members of East Allegheny School District’s administrative team met at the Consortium to launch their comprehensive planning. Superintendent Joe DiLucente, having invested in his team to learn human-centered design (HCD) through our courses, knew that he wanted to leverage those new tools in the way that they approached their planning process.

To kick things off, the team worked with Consortium staff to reflect on the district’s strengths and challenges; brainstorm possible solutions; and draft goals that could be elaborated on through additional meetings and incorporated into their full plan.

Hear from Joe directly as he reflects on the process and outcomes of using HCD, with the support of the Consortium, to launch their comprehensive planning.
