Representing the Unique Stories of Educators of Color

Published January 28, 2025 by Debbie Pixton

Educators of color are deeply underrepresented in Pennsylvania schools, making it ever more difficult to inspire non-white students to pursue careers in K12 education.

With that challenge in mind, a few years ago we sought to elevate and share the stories of Black educators in our region as a way to create “mirrors” for young students of color so that they might envision a potential future as a teacher, counselor, or school leader.

The “I Reach, I Teach” video series represents those unique stories.

As one of our incredible interviewees, Dr. Chuck Herring said, “If you see it, then you believe it, then you can do it.”

Please take a few minutes today to listen to and share with your students.
