Providing “first aid” when students need mental health support

Published June 2, 2021 by Pam Gaynor

As many schools see an increase in the number of students struggling with mental health issues, the Consortium is partnering with Allegheny HealthChoices to bring educators training in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for youth. Through MHFA training, participants learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth, provide initial support, and connect youth and families to appropriate care.

MHFA training is provided virtually. The next training is on Friday, June 18, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Educators must register online to participate.

For administrators and leaders who are considering MHFA for their staff or are interested in learning more about the training sessions and costs, we’ll be hosting an informational webinar with Allegheny HealthChoices from 11 AM to Noon, Tuesday, June 22. Participants must register online.

For questions or additional information contact Jackie Foor.
