Mascaro Construction Co. President John Mascaro, Jr. and Community College of Beaveer County President Roger Davis, Ed.D, will kick off the first of two Future Ready Partnerships Conferences this year with a keynote conversation about how they’ve collaborated to introduce students to construction industry careers beginning in high school.
Also on the agenda will be more than two dozen breakout sessions designed to showcase other successful school-business partnerships, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. Among the breakout hosts are: the German American Chamber of Commerce, which connects high schools to corporate pre-apprentice and apprenticeship training programs; Range Resources, which works with schools to showcase career opportunities in the Marcellus Shale gas industry; the U.S. Navy’s Pennsylvania Talent Pipeline Project, which helps connect students, mainly from Career & Technical Education Centers, with manufacturers supplying submarine parts; the Pittsburgh Technology Council, which helps schools introduce STEM careers through numerous programs; and WQED’s Film Academy, which offers programming to middle and high school students.
The Consortium is co-hosting the Conferences this year with Intermediate Unit 1(IU1). The first takes place March 21 at IU1’s McMurray campus. A second Conference, featuring different speakers and additional breakouts, will be held April 20 in Monroeville.
We’ve planned two events to feature more partnerships from the surrounding counties and to help connect new schools and businesses. Those wishing attend the McMurray event can register on Eventbrite. Registrations for Monroeville, where space is more limited, already have closed out.
“The agenda for our McMurray event is well along the way to completion,” said Program Director Gina Barrett, who is doing much of the planning for the event. “We’re also beginning to flesh out the Monroeville conference and will be releasing more details about that event in the near future.”
