Mascaro Construction

Mascaro Construction Company, LP

Educator in the Workforce

The program provided an overview of the multiple careers opportunities in construction, the current and upcoming need for skilled personnel, and the various career paths students can take to achieve a fulfilling career in construction. It also provided educators an understanding of how to connect classroom learning with needed construction skills.

Benefits to Participants

After the program, the educators identified and discussed the skills students needed to succeed in the construction field and how to incorporate teaching these skills in their classroom. Teams of educators began to design a sharing strategy for how they will share opportunities in the construction field with colleagues, students and families.

Through this program, we believe we can support our community and provide career opportunities for today’s youth as we work toward replenishing our aging workforce.

Educator’s Take on the Experience

“Some of the things we learned, particularly about the tests apprentices take, will help me make my teaching more job-oriented.”

– High school teacher

Best Practices

Unlike other Educator in the Workforce models, we focused on the entire construction industry. We brought together representatives from skilled trades, technical schools, community colleges, and universities to discuss career options and skills needed for positions from skilled tradesperson to project management to office support. This approach allowed a broader set of stakeholders to have a new understanding of what it means to work in construction.
