The Consortium for Public Education is saddened by the death of Stephen T. Tomko, a former member of the board of its founding organization, the McKeesport Education Consortium. Mr. Tomko, a White Oak resident, died Dec. 9th at UPMC McKeesport Hospital, He was 70. A retired patent attorney, Mr. Tomko held an engineering degree from Carnegie Technical Institute, predecessor to Carnegie Mellon University, and a law degree from Duquesne University.

In addition to serving on the McKeesport Consortium’s board, he served on the McKeesport Area School District board, the White Oak Planning and Zoning Commission and as vice president and legal advisor of the Supreme Lodge of Sokol USA. He had served as president of Sokol Lodge No. 46 for more than 30 years. Mr. Tomko is survived by his wife, Patricia Yager Tomko; daughter, Elaine Marie DeLuca, of Penfield, NY; son, Stephen V. Tomko of McKeesport; sister, Eleanor Casciato of White Oak; a grandson; a granddaughter; and two nephews.
