Title: Flipping Over Fractions

Through this program, fifth grade students will learn how fractions are an
integral part of their every day lives as they become proficient with fractions.
Using fraction manipulatives and activities, students will learn and reinforce
fraction concepts.
Title: Chinese New Year

This program will introduce students to the Chinese New Year through hands-on
lessons integrating math, social science, art and journal writing. The children
will learn about another culture in a fun way while focusing on academic standards.

The goal of this grant is to build the resources (software, hardware and book
resources) of the school library to have an impact on student reading achievement.
Also an incentive program will be in place to encourage children to read. This
will help strong reading foundations to be developed in the early critical
years of schooling.
Title: Third Grade Rocks

This grant project will enhance the study of an earth-science unit as the third
graders work in a simulated excavation. After a study of soil, fossils, fuels
and rock collections, students will work in archaeological teams to "unearth" rocks
and minerals, perform tests and classify their findings. This grant will provide
a variety of hands-on experiences and will incorporate scientific method in
the study of rocks and minerals.

This grant will provide children with enrichment and skill reinforcement in
language arts, reading, and math through games and activities at various learning
stations. Each station will feature a train car and an activity (Noun and Verb
Match Up, Rhyming Word Match Up, Sum Swamp, Subtraction Super Safari, etc.).
Students will work at the stations in teams between the reading groups and,
as they complete all the activities, they will earn their engineers badge.
Title: Come, Have Tea and Read With Me

The grant will showcase the Kindergarten childrens academic accomplishments
in phonics, reading and writing in a year-end tea. Students will also practice
the social skills needed for this event and then celebrate with their families
their accomplishments.
Title: Our Native American Cultural Heritage

In this program, students will study the art and culture of Native Americans
through the use of the Carnegie Museums education loan collections and
classroom lessons. Then students will learn about pottery and pottery building
techniques such as coil building, pinch pots, slab building, burnishing, and
slip decorating.

This program provides the opportunity for all children in grades K-5 to walk
for fitness. Students individually accrue miles by walking during lunchtime
and recess on a pre-painted track located on school grounds. Incentives are
earned for every five miles walked. While a primary goal is to improve physical
health academic activities, such as calculating elapsed time, using forms of
measurement calculating distances to attractions such as Disney World will
be incorporated.

This grant will create a drum circle for the music program. Students will learn
to develop multi-layered ostinatos (repeated patterns) and to experiment with
improvisation. Musical notation will also be stressed. This program intends
to give students an experience in rhythmic drumming and music as an international
language.
Title: Doo Wop Reading (Reading With the Oldies)

This program initiates a musical approach to traditional phonics instruction.
Using oldies music with its predictable rhymes, students will read and sing
lyrics learning their phonics lessons in a fun-filled way. A culminating activity
will be a performance to entertain their families and show-off their new and
improved language skills.
Title: PSSA Pen Pals

In this grant project third and twelfth grade students will collaborate to
create pen pal letters using reading, writing and critical thinking skills
that correlate with the PSSA standards. Students will practice sentence construction,
mechanics of writing, subject/verb agreement, capitalization and punctuation.

Title: Journey
Through the Environment with Books

In this project, students will read Kristin Pratt-Serafini books to learn about
the varied world environments. The culminating activity for this program will
be a visit for the author talking to the students about writing and the subject
of her books.

In this program students will work in groups to enlarge and add detail to pictures,
graphs, and maps related to their classroom lessons. For example, students
will be able to make large displays of the planets or create math quilts or
develop science projects. Students will be out of their seats and out of their
workbooks and engaged in handson activities related to all areas of the
curriculum to reinforce their academic skills.

Building on a childs natural interest, curiosity, and love of animals,
this grant will give children a variety of hands-on lessons with a "farm
fresh" theme that will enhance their knowledge in the other areas of the
first grade curriculum. Fifth graders will help the first graders at learning
centers that range from making butter to creating a farm story. The children
will also research their favorite animals in the library. Title: Spring

This project creates a Spring Celebration of Reading and will be kicked-off
with a family-fun evening with Dave Crawley, author and poet. Family units
will then rotate to various reading sessions hosted by teachers and community
members. Classroom activities following this evening will include poetry writing
sessions with Dave Crawley, and student shared book recommendations. The goal
of this event and related activities is to motivate the children to continue

This grant will produce a publication of students writing
and artistic works. The writing endeavor will
span across the curriculum and will include
poems, persuasive essays, descriptive paragraphs, book reviews, autobiographies
and song lyrics. Writing skills will be reinforced and enhanced. Also, the
publication will include various forms of artwork.
This publication will be available for
sale to parents and community members and will allow for the project to be
done yearly.

This grant program showcases students performing the musical production, Schoolhouse
Rocks! Live! Students will reinforce concepts in history, science, math, and
language arts while learning elements of drama, acting, singing, set and costume
production, direction and choreography.

In this program, students will use TIME for Kids magazine as a catalyst for
connect learning across the curriculum. The content of the magazine will be
addressed in Social Studies classrooms. Students will engage in a variety of
activities, such as debate, TV broadcasts, and planning for a time capsule
that will reinforce and enhance reading, writing and thinking skills.

Through this project, students will have the opportunity to take part in an
enhanced inquiry-based learning environment through the creation of an outdoor
classroom. Students will plan, implement and maintain an outdoor classroom/environmental
laboratory. This area will give students the hands-on learning experience related
to the seventh grade curriculum as they observe and study plants, pond life,
birds and trees that will be part of the outdoor classroom.
Title: Jr. Jeopardy Journey

This grant project has gifted students competing in a tournament of Jeopardy
using questions gleaned from their classroom studies and current events. Teachers
can program the game with questions from all subject areas and resources (textbooks,
tests, literature, newspapers, etc.). During the game, the questions appear
on the TV screen and students use a buzzer that is linked to the scoreboard
to signal that they know the answer. Teams accumulate points that are shown
on the scoreboard. Teachers and students in the classrooms can also use this
tool as a fun and exciting way to reinforce weak skills or to motivate students
in new areas of study.
