LEADERSHIP RETREAT

Monessen School Board member Anthony Barbera checks in with the Consortium's Vicki Creider.

The Neighborhood Game was a great icebreaker - it got everybody moving while delivering a message about disparities between communities.

The Neighborhood Game was a creation of Kathleen Bulger of the University of Pittsburgh, who was on hand to supervise "the playing field" at the retreat.

The data books compiled by the Consortium for each team at the retreat provided a great deal of food for thought.

Friday afternoon was given over to the teams for some intensive work on issues unique to their districts. From top to bottom above are California Area, Brownsville Area, Yough and Steel Valley.

Keynote speaker Friday night was Deirdre A. Royster, Chair of the Department of Sociology at The College of William and Mary, After her address, she signed copies of her book, "Race and the Invisible Hand: How White Networks Exclude Black Men from Blue Collar Jobs" (photo below).
